We stayed from April 9th through April 17th, 2019. My husband got sick on Friday April 12th with massive diarrhea and chills. He was sick for several days. I ended up getting sick on Monday April 15th with the same issues and upon returning home, I was in the ER on Thursday April 18th for horrific stomach pains, diarrhea, nausea, dehydration etc. I had a CT scan which showed very inflammatory colitis and my potassium was extremely low. I was given IV fluids and pain meds and sent home. I continued to not feel well the rest of that week and on Sunday April 21st around midnight, I was transported by ambulance yet again to the ER - I was in the most extreme pain I’ve ever felt in my life. My stomach felt as if an alien was trying to break free from it!! I could barely move out of a fetal position. My white count was very elevated so they had to give me IV antibiotics, IV fluids and IV strong pain meds. I had another CT scan which showed the inflammation in my stomach and colon etc had “spread” and was worse. The doctor said it seemed like I had picked up an infection or possible a parasite while down in the DR! I was put on a 10 day regimen of very strong antibiotics and a bland diet (I could barely eat anything anyways). A couple of weeks later I went for more bloodwork and my white count was STILL elevated. The doctor said it was good it was coming down but also said since my inflammation was so bad, it could take months to recover. Here I am 2 months later and still having issues. Dr said I have “post infectious IBS” which can sometimes take years to clear. I now have to go for yet a THIRD CT Scan in a 2 month period to see what is going on inside of me. This has been hell. I never feel good - always feel sickly and my stomach is awful. I continue to suffer. And all from my trip in Punta Cana!! | Symptoms: Diarrhea, Nausea, Dehydration, Stomach Pain, Chills
