On 5/14/19 day 2 of vacation, patient E.S. came from eating lunch at the buffet and having a drink by the pool, once arrived in room, patient began projectile vomiting and diarrhea at the same time. E.S. did not feel well and stayed in room the remaining night. She had purchased 2 tickets for Monkeyland for 5/16/19 equaling $158.00. Well, E.S. still did not feel well the following day 5/15/19, therefore she did not leave her room but for Monkeyland on 5/16/19 and was told she could not participate due to being ill and she would get the monkey's sick. Some of the Dominicians attempted to assist E.S. with Lemon and salt for a remedy but she could not gather enough energy and went back to room, during this time the diarrhea persisted everyday 10-14 times a day. The day of departure Evette was still very ill but was able to take the ride/flight for home. Once in the airport the weakness and fullness in her abdomen increased, this requiring full assistance to and through the Miami airport. Once arriving back in Cleveland, Ohio, E.S. was taken to Metrohealth emergency in Ohio around 130am on 5/19/19 and transported to Main Campus Metro health hospital where it was determined she had developed an Small bowel obstruction while away. food poisoning, kidney damage, and dehydration. She has been hospitalized for 3 days, also missing work due to hospitalization. She was unable to interact the entire vacation, resulting in her lying in bed the entire time, weak, fatigue, and lethargic with discoloration of skin; unable to eat, poor mobility and discomfort. She saw someone/Dominican on the bus for Monkeyland, who attempted to treat with the remedy listed above but also stated he would not recommend the hospital in Punta Cana, DR. My kid immediately didn’t want his meal and... See More only ate French fries and lemon wedges. His “fish sticks” were actually a small order of fish ‘n chips and he described them as “too wiggly” - they were soggy. I am grateful he actually didn’t eat it.
My wife liked her shrimp burrito until the last bite, which she said tasted weird and spit it out.
I was ok with my fish ‘n chips - even though it was indeed soggy - until I let it settle for a few minutes and it never actually settled. We left and after about 30 minutes I started to feel even more nauseous and vomited while shopping at a grocery store.
Went immediately home - another hour drive - and stopped about 4 times along the way so that I could vomit even more. By this time my entire body was aching, especially all of my joints, and my head was pounding.
I ran a fever up to 103.2°f.
Heavy chills, shaking, and sweating.
More vomiting.
Severe headache.
Even my testicles hurt.
Aching pain in hips, knees, ankles, elbows, wrists, jaw, neck.
My eyes hurt so bad.
I had to call out of work the next day and the day after that as well. 2 days lost of pay and the price of the meal down the toilet. The WORST case of food poisoning I have ever had.

See More have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. The Cantaloupes were distributed directly to the following States in the United States: Arizona, California, Maryland, New Jersey, Tennessee, Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin, Texas, Florida and Canada. The Cantaloupes would have reached consumers through retail produce markets which may be located in states other than those listed above. There have been no reported illnesses associated with the subject cantaloupes, to date.
Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.
The Cantaloupes are packaged in cardboard containers bearing the “Malichita” Label (picture attached). The cantaloupes also have an individual PLU sticker placed upon each cantaloupe in the form of the attached picture. As shown in the picture, the PLU sticker has a top half which is white which has the word “Malichita” written in script in black letters. The bottom of the PLU sticker is black and has the number “4050” prominently displayed in white letters together with the words “Product of Mexico/produit du Mexique”. This label will identify individual Malichita cantaloupes purchased by consumers.
Trufresh is performing this recall after the Canadian Food Inspection Agency announced a similar recall of cantaloupes packaged with the same Malichita label and bearing the same PLU due to possible salmonella contamination for cantaloupes sold to Fruits et Légumes Gaétan Bono. Trufresh’s investigation has revealed that the order numbers may have been associated with the cantaloupes sold to Fruits et Légumes Gaétan Bono.
Check to see if you have recalled products; and do not consume, serve, use, sell, or distribute recalled products.
Recalled products should be returned to the location where they were purchased.
Consumers who are unsure if they have purchased the recalled product are advised to contact their retailer.

As of October 24, 2023, 41 jurisdictions, including 40 states and New York City, have reported a total of 2,272 laboratory-confirmed...
