In a recent foodborne illness outbreak, 46 employees of NAFCO, a seafood distributor in Jessup, MD, fell sick after consuming a meal prepared by an external source. The incident occurred at a state complex and is currently under investigation. The Howard County Fire & Rescue Department responded to the situation on October 21, around 3:45 p.m. at the 700 block of Chesapeake Bay Court in Jessup. Upon arrival, they discovered 46 individuals exhibiting symptoms of food poisoning. A few others reported feeling unwell but did not require medical attention. All patients were described as non-critical by the department's spokeswoman, Samantha Stanton.
The meal, suspected to be the source of the outbreak, was not produced by NAFCO or distributed to the general public, as confirmed by Stanley Pearlman Enterprises, NAFCO's parent company. The health department believes the food was prepared by an outside source, which is now the focus of their investigation.
