Miguel’s Cocina 4S Ranch restaurant in San Diego, CA linked to E. Coli (STEC) outbreak

6 months ago source www.countynewscenter.com

Outbreak

10514 Craftsman Way, San Diego, 92127 California, United States

The County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) is investigating a Shiga-toxin-producing E. Coli (STEC) outbreak linked to Miguel’s Cocina 4S Ranch restaurant located at 10514 Craftsman Way, San Diego, CA. To date, 13 confirmed or probable cases have been reported, 7 people have to be hospitalized, with 1 case developing a severe complication called a hemolytic uremic syndrome.

The affected people reported eating at this restaurant from Oct. 6 to Oct. 18 and had symptoms from Oct. 13 to Oct. 19.  The specific food items that were sources of this outbreak are still under investigation. Even though the inspection did not lead to the identification of any major operational risk factors, the restaurant's management voluntarily closed its doors until the source of the bacteria can be clearly identified.

STEC infection symptoms generally appear within three to four days post-exposure and can vary from person to person. Common symptoms include severe abdominal cramps, watery or bloody diarrhea, and vomiting. These symptoms may be accompanied by a mild fever, and while most people recover within five to seven days, some cases can become severe or even life-threatening.

In case you are experiencing E. coli STEC symptoms, it is important to report it. It can help to detect & resolve outbreaks early and prevent others from being harmed, and it enables better surveillance. If symptoms persist, seek medical care.
