The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is currently investigating a new outbreak of Salmonella Enteritidis (Ref: # 1288). The outbreak has reportedly affected at least 18 individuals, although the specific details of the patients and the origin of the food causing the outbreak remain undisclosed. The outbreak was discovered during routine surveillance by the FDA. The agency is working diligently to trace the source of the outbreak and to prevent further spread of the infection. The FDA continues to monitor the situation closely and will provide updates as more information becomes available. The Salmonella outbreak is believed to be larger than reported, as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that for every confirmed Salmonella patient, there are 29 unreported cases. The FDA has initiated traceback efforts to identify the food source, but no specific food item has been identified yet.
