Gluten-Free Cake Warning - Wenz Cakes on Facebook, Geelong Victoria

3 years ago reported by user-vxfw2959

Wenz Cakes on Facebook, Geelong VIC, Australia

Geelong, 3220 Victoria, Australia

I didn't know this platform existed until I came across it on Facebook. I'm making this report to make geelong residents aware that this could happen to you.

Many business on Facebook may not have council approval to make food on their premises. Make sure you ask before you buy as this is beyond appalling.

My child is a coeliac and I was after a birthday cake for him. I messaged various cake makers throughout Geelong. One local lady said she could make it. My son 1 hour after consuming the cake was violently ill. After a trip to the emergency ward doctors confirmed he had consumed gluten. For the next two days my son spent time in the hospital in excruciating pain.

I messaged the cake lady "Wenz Cakes" on Facebook, who had delivered the cake to me to explain what had occurred. She blocked me after that. Even phone calls to her ending up in either her message bank or she'd hang up. I have tried to report all this to the council. She continues to advertise gluten free cakes on many platforms and make cakes for others. The council won't even investigate to shut her down and find out where she lives as her business isn't registered.

Only buy from council registered kitchens that have a licence to operate and cake makers that are educated on good safety and risks. | Symptoms: Allergic Reaction
