Baby spinach products linked to food-related toxic reactions outbreak

2 years ago source health.nsw.gov.au

Outbreak

Australia

The NSW Health is investigating a food-related toxic reactions outbreak linked to baby spinach products. As of 18 December, as part of the ongoing investigation, 164 people in NSW have reported symptoms after eating baby spinach and at least 42 of these people have sought medical attention. Reported symptoms can be severe, including Delirium or confusion, Hallucinations, Dilated pupils, Rapid heartbeat, Flushed face, Blurred vision, Dry mouth.

Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) issued several recalls of these baby spinach products:
- Riviera Fresh – Riviera Farms Baby Spinach
- Fresh Salad Co – Fresh and Fast Stir Fry
- Woolworths – Chicken Cobb Salad and Chickpea Falafel Salad
- Coles – Spinach, Chef Blend Tender Leaf, Baby Leaf Blend, Kitchen Green Goddess Salad, Kitchen Chicken BLT Salad Bowl, Kitchen Roast Pumpkin, Fetta & Walnut Salad, Kitchen Smokey Mexican Salad, Kitchen Egg and Spinach Pots

People are being advised not to consume these baby spinach products due to cases of possible food-related toxic reactions. NSW Health advises the recalled products are not safe to consume and people who have purchased these recalled products should throw them out or return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.

In case you experienced symptoms such as those described before, report it now. It can help to detect & resolve outbreaks early and prevent others from being harmed, and it enables better surveillance. If symptoms persist, seek medical care.
