Fresh Market's Buckhead Deli Counter linked to Salmonella Outbreak

2 years ago source wsbtv.com business

4405 Roswell Road Northeast, Atlanta, 30342 Georgia, United States

The Georgia Department of Agriculture is investigating a salmonella outbreak linked to the Fresh Market deli counter located on Roswell Road in Buckhead.

The DPH informed in a statement that between January 2023 and July 2023, fewer than 15 salmonella infections related to Fresh Market were reported, about half of these individuals were hospitalized and no deaths were reported. As of July, the Department of Public Health has not received any further reports of illness, however, the investigation at the market is ongoing.

According to the news, several customers of the Fresh Market were reportedly infected with salmonella, prompting increased scrutiny on the store. A former worker, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, unveiled unsettling, unsanitary conditions in the deli section. According to her, she first noticed these conditions back in June and promptly alerted health officials. She reported incidents of employees handling food without hair nets or gloves and even presented photographs of bacteria growth near ready-to-eat meals.

The Fresh Market, in response to the ongoing investigation, stated that it is committed to the safety and well-being of its customers and employees. As the investigation persists, they are cooperating voluntarily, taking necessary actions to ensure the quality and safety of their food products.
