May 10th, 2025:
Fresh & Ready Foods LLC is at the center of a multistate Listeria outbreak linked to its ready-to-eat products. Ten people have been hospitalized in Nevada and California due to the outbreak.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and public health officials in several states are investigating the outbreak, which has been traced back to ready-to-eat foods like sandwiches and protein snacks produced by Fresh & Ready Foods LLC. The company issued a recall for the affected products on May 10, 2025. The recalled items were sold to retail stores, hospitals, hotels, airports, and airlines in Arizona, California, Nevada, and Washington. Best by dates from April 22, 2025, to May 19, 2025.
Brand names include:
- Fresh & Ready Foods
- City Point Market Fresh Food to Go
- Fresh Take Crave Away
The problem was discovered when the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) collected environmental samples from Fresh & Ready Foods LLC for testing. Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) showed that the Listeria in the environmental samples was closely related to bacteria from sick people, suggesting that the source of the outbreak was the company's ready-to-eat foods. The investigation is ongoing, and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
