Outbreak Investigation of Salmonella linked to Eggs

Midwest Poultry Services, L.P. has recalled white shell eggs and brown cage-free shell eggs due to a Salmonella outbreak. The recall affects eggs sold under various brand names, including Country Morning and Kroger, with sell-by dates between July 20 and August 17, 2026. The outbreak has sickened 98 people across 17 states, with 26 hospitalizations reported.

The recalled eggs were distributed to retail and foodservice outlets in Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi, and New Mexico. Consumers are advised to discard or return the eggs. The outbreak, linked to Salmonella Enteritidis, began with illnesses reported from November 2025 to June 2026. Most affected individuals reported consuming eggs prior to falling ill.

The issue was identified through a combination of laboratory, epidemiological, and traceback data. Midwest Poultry Services, L.P. conducted testing at its Texas farms, where samples matched the outbreak strain. The company shared these findings with the FDA on July 21, 2026, prompting the recall. The investigation is ongoing to determine if other sources are involved.
