Los Angeles County Department of Public Health reports an outbreak of over 150 cases of suspected gastrointestinal illness. The source appears to be consumption of raw oysters, potentially infected with norovirus, indiscriminately sourced from three particular areas in Mexico: Laguna De Guerrero Negro, Baja California, Mexico; Laguna Manuela, Baja California, Mexico; and Bahia Salina, Sonora, Mexico. These specific areas have become a prime focus of the ongoing investigation due to the striking correlation between the consumption of raw oysters procured from these areas and reported cases of suspected norovirus. Public Health is collaborating with the California Department of Public Health to further confirm findings and pin down the exact source.
Public Health has since issued a warning to all consumers advising them to inquire about the origin of raw oysters at restaurants or vendors before consuming. It is crucial that consumers remain informed about the sources of their food and vigilant about the potential risks.
