Public Health has completed an investigation into a foodborne illness case involving Vibrio vulnificus bacteria, linked to live blue crabs purchased from Lam's Seafood Market in Seattle. One individual fell ill after consuming the crabs at home, but no hospitalizations or deaths have been reported.

The illness was reported on July 1, 2025, when the affected person experienced symptoms such as diarrhea and stomach pain. The investigation revealed several food safety violations at Lam's Seafood Market, including improper handling and storage of blue crabs, inadequate cold holding temperatures, and sanitation issues in the seafood preparation area. Additionally, the live seafood tank was found to be unclean, and some equipment was not approved for use, increasing the risk of contamination.

The problem was discovered after the individual tested positive for Vibrio vulnificus and Vibrio fluvialis. Public Health officials visited the market on July 15, 2025, to identify and address the issues. A follow-up inspection on July 29, 2025, confirmed that many of the problems had been rectified. Lam's Seafood Market has been cooperating with authorities to enhance food safety measures and prevent
