The New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets has issued a consumer alert regarding the potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination of Connecticut Hill Melter raw milk cheese produced by Nathaniel Thompson - DBA Remembrance Farm. This product was distributed to Full Plate Farm Collective Community Supported Agriculture... See More (CSA) in Ithaca, NY. To date, no illnesses have been reported linked to the product.
The cheese is sold in 0.5-pound wedges, wrapped in paper bearing the name "Connecticut Hill Melter" and the batch code 042323. Consumers should also be wary of packages without an identifiable batch date.
An inspector from the Department discovered the potential contamination during routine sampling. The producer was notified of the preliminary positive test for Listeria on September 15, 2023, with subsequent testing on September 19, 2023, confirming the presence of this bacteria.
Listeriosis, caused by Listeria monocytogenes, can cause serious health issues, particularly in young children, the elderly, those with weakened immune systems, and pregnant women. Symptoms include high fever, severe headaches, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.
Consumers are recommended to dispose of any purchased cheese from the alerted batch as a preventative measure. Additionally, note that raw milk products do not undergo pasteurization, a process that effectively kills harmful bacteria including Listeria monocytogenes, safeguarding against foodborne illnesses, like listeriosis.

I tried to eat crackers to calm my stomach along with drinking water and neither would stay down and vomiting ensued.The rest of the day I vomited several times as I tried to hydrate myself. Each time I tried my stomach would cramp and I would experience gas either through burping or flatulence followed by vomiting.The following day I was finally able to keep ginger ale down but still experienced cramping and gas . I finally went to the er for treatment. I brought a stool and sample, and was told that there was no way to determine where the contamination occurred. Even though online I read blood and stool samples as well as testing of the contaminated food could reveal the source. Got manager on the line was trying to explain the situation and she said hang on and then there was some guy on the phone. He said he was trained in food safety, I told him what happened to my husband and this guy said that it was not pizza hut product n even went further saying that my husband ate something else n that made him sick. I was floored, this guy was interrupting me, couldn't finish a whole sentence, and now I'm a liar? I made sure theme guy on the other end knew that I also have been trained in food safety, and all he was doing was calling me and my husband liars. I finally raised my voice just a bit so he knew I was extremely upset and worried about my husband. Shigellosis Outbreak likely linked to a Conference in Hotel Venue ine in Downtown Los Angeles

A Shigellosis outbreak is being investigated by Alameda County Public Health Department in collaboration with the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), which may be associated with a conference held at a hotel venue in downtown Los Angeles. The event, from August 21-24, 2023, saw over 300... See More attendees and has since resulted in 6 confirmed cases.
The four-day union delegate conference resulted in 6 reported cases of shigellosis as of August 31, 2023, originating from 4 different local health jurisdictions in California. At least 3 of these cases were confirmed to be Shigella by PCR, with additional subtyping pending. It's been reported that all of the infected individuals attended the event and the known illness onset date has been identified as August 25th of these cases, at least 2 have required hospitalization. As of September 1, 2023, Alameda County is reporting 3 shigellosis cases to CDPH, all of whom attended this event.
Public health officials continue to manage and investigate the outbreak, informing and liaising with event attendees and local health authorities to manage the situation.

Hi, thanks so much for your comment. The most common fish food poisonings are scombroid and ciguatera. Scombroid is caused by improperly handling of fish-producing histamine-releasing bacteria. Symptoms can occur as quickly as 15 minutes. Ciguatera is common with tropical and sub-tropical fish and typically causes hot-cold reversal.Have a good afternoon!
