Andalusia, Spain

Updated:

The Andalusian Government's Health and Consumer Affairs department is investigating a norovirus outbreak at CEIP Santiago Ramón y Cajal school in El Ejido, Almeria, Spain. Approximately 40 individuals have been affected by the virus.

The outbreak, which was first detected on January 30, has primarily resulted in … See More
mild symptoms among those infected, including vomiting and diarrhea. Despite the outbreak, no hospital admissions have been necessary, according to Health department sources. The majority of those affected are children associated with the school.

The discovery of the outbreak came about through public health investigations following reports of vomiting and diarrhea. The school's canteen has continued to operate normally, in line with medical inspection guidelines. The Health and Consumer Affairs department is currently conducting further investigations and inspections to manage the situation.

Norovirus is very contagious and is easily transmitted from person to person most through the oral/fecal route. Considering that hand sanitizer does NOT work against this virus, it is important to wash your hands with soap frequently. Use bleach to clean and disinfect surfaces.

In case you experience Norovirus symptoms, such as vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, and nausea, report it now. It can help to detect & resolve outbreaks early and prevent others from being harmed, and it enables better surveillance. If symptoms persist, seek medical care
