Pueblo Fruits, Inc. has voluntarily initiated a recall of its Onion Yellow Med 3 Outer Rings product due to a potential hazard of C. botulinum growth. The product was exclusively distributed to Blake's Lota Burger in Albuquerque, New Mexico located at 3207 Richmond Dr NE, Albuquerque, NM 87107, USA. The recall was initiated after the firm discovered that it had not completed a hazard analysis for potential C. botulinum growth and toxin production in its processing, storage, and shipping of raw onions into vacuum-sealed bags. The recall is ongoing.The recalled product is branded as Onion Yellow Med 3 Outer Rings, packaged in a 5 LB vacuum sealed, clear plastic bag. The product bears a white paper label with the following information:
- Blake's (Richmond) Onion Yellow Med 3 Outer Rings 4-5 LB PO# 047981
- Lot#787806-6883R5, 795046-3948R1, 787806-6883R3, 795046-3948R2
- Use By Date of 04/03/2024.
A total of 23 cases have been recalled.

Clostridium botulinum is a bacterium that produces a potent neurotoxin. If you consume food contaminated with this bacterium, it can lead to botulism, a serious illness. Symptoms include muscle weakness and paralysis, including in the muscles used for breathing. This condition can be fatal if not treated promptly and properly. The bacterium thrives in low-oxygen environments, such as improperly canned or preserved foods.
