Listeria Strikes: Rare Paralysis - Specially Selected, Paris Île-de-France

1 year ago reported by user-cfcm5611 business

Le Royal Cambronne, Place Cambronne, Paris, France

2 Place Cambronne, Paris, 75015 Île-de-France, France

In late 2022, I dined at Le Royal Cambronne Brasserie in Paris along with 3 other friends (we were all visiting Paris from other countries).  We all ordered the same item, but mine arrived bright pink inside.  I tasted the item to double-check, and realized that it was not only uncooked, but cold.  I summoned the waiter, who then summoned the manager.  They acknowledged the item was uncooked and ill-prepared, and sent it back to the kitchen.  After some time, the manager served me the item again, properly cooked this time, with extra potatoes, and a sincere apology.  At the time, I was grateful for the restaurant admitting its mistake, and correcting it.   Unfortunately, my gratitude did not last very long!   On January 1, 2023, I awoke completely paralyzed from the waist-down.  I was visiting Spain at the time (from Germany), and I was rushed by ambulance to the hospital, where they quickly moved me to the ICU as my condition was quickly deteriorating.   They suspect listeriosis meningitis encephalitis, and asked if I had recently (within the last 70 days) been served anything uncooked.  Listeria is rare, but can show up in uncooked foods.   I told them about the incident at Le Royal Cambronne in Paris, where there were multiple witnesses, including the manager, and they suspected that this is likely how I would have contracted such a deadly bacteria.   Within 24 hours I was placed into a coma.  Tests confirmed the listeriosis, and I was given high-doses of the appropriate antibiotics to kill off the bacteria.   I emerged from a coma 6 weeks later, only to be told that I may never, walk, eat, or talk properly again.  The listeria had done its damage, and it that it may likely be permanent.   On March 6, my health condition had somehow stabilized, and I was air-lifted to Bodrum, Turkey, where a highly-specialized rehabilitation medicine team took valiant efforts to try and help me recover.   Today, although I’m not yet completely out of the woods, with the miracles they performed, I have movement again my limbs, I am able to eat again, and talk again. But I am still unable to sit down for more than 2 hours, without lying down, so I am unable to fly home to California (~14 hours). So my recovery will likely take several years.   As soon as I was able, I retained a lawyer in Paris, who contacted the brasserie.  For 6 months, Le Royal Cambronne and their insurers have been basically ignoring us. It took them weeks before we get a dismissive 2-line reply and then again, they ignored any of our many subsequent mails and e-mails, despite the mountain of evidence against them.  It was only until we notified the Paris area’s health authorities did the restaurant respond.  Despite the evidence (of even their own manager), they refused to admit the incident ever happened, and even had the indecency to ask why it took more than a year to contact them.   Although I am finally out of the hospital (I was hospitalized for much of 2023), I am convalescing at home (now in Turkey), receiving high-quality round-the-clock care.  My recovery journey is long and arduous and I have nothing but gratitude to the countless doctors and nurses who intervened as soon as they could, and still are intervening, to assist in my miraculous recovery.   You think I’m making this up?   My story was covered in the Daily Mail UK and reached millions of people worldwide within days. You can read all about it here: tinyurl.com/2drmm452 If I could give this restaurant minus 1000 stars, I would! No one should be eating at this restaurant EVER!   If they can put me literally on my deathbed by their negligence, they can do it to you, to anyone, too!   Save your life and your sanity, and don’t dine here!!   Thanks, - @leroyalcambronne #paris
