Unicorn Cake Causes Illness - Sainsbury's, Costessey England

2 years ago reported by user-httq5986 business

Sainsbury's Longwater, William Frost Way, New Costessey, Costessey, Norwich, UK

William Frost Way, Costessey, NR5 0JS England, United Kingdom

I bought a unicorn cake for my daughters 3rd birthday. Once we sang happy birthday and cut the cake, we started eating and realised it tasted completely off. It tasted like sick and smelt of rotten eggs. My children had all ate quite a lot of it, but we took the remainder off them and they were upset about this. About half an hour later, my 7 year old son started being violently sick - my daughter's birthday was ruined.
My husband took the cake back to Sainsbury's and the very unempethetic lady at customer services firstly told my husband he couldn't get a refund as he didn't have a receipt, but after my husband insisted he gets refunded for this, she finally and reluctantly offered a refund on a store card. She didn't seem at all bothered, but my husband tried telling her that there may be other cakes on the shelf which could possibly cause someone else to be ill. She replied with "well I don't know what you want me to do about that. Do you want to talk to a manager?"
He said yes, a manager came over with no introduction just "something about a cake?" - absolutely not the customer service I'd expect from a manager. My husband explained again and the manager smelt the cake, retracted in a disgusted way due to the awful smell.
My husband then suggested that other cakes on the shelf be taken down in case it causes the same issue to other families and he just shrugged his shoulders and asked if we would like a £10 gift voucher as a gesture of good will. He wasn't at all apologetic and not at all bothered about this happening to anyone else.
My husband accepted the £10 voucher, but following this my other two children have had sickness and diahorrea through the night and my husband has had to take the day off work as he too is unwell from the cake. | Symptoms: Nausea, Diarrhea, Vomiting
