Crab Soup Illness Alert - Stripers Waterside, Norfolk Virginia

4 years ago reported by user-knjjv567 business

Stripers Waterside, Waterside Drive, Norfolk, VA, USA

333 Waterside Drive, Norfolk, 23510 Virginia, United States

My husband and I decided to eat a late lunch/early dinner at this restaurant on September 16th, 2021 at 3 PM. We probably should have been suspicious that things weren’t quite right due to us being their only customers, which I did note. However, I chocked it up to being an off hour. It was our first day of vacation to the area. Even though we had lived in the vicinity for almost 20 years, we had never frequented this restaurant before. I ordered the crab soup and an appetizer of bacon wrapped scallops, which is not uncommon for me whenever we return to places along the Chesapeake Bay. When the soup arrived, I thought it strange that the consistency was particularly runny. I guessed that it was just their take on the crab soup. I was extremely hungry when we decided to eat here, but about 1/3 - 1/2 way through the soup, and only having eaten just one scallop, I was in disbelief that I already felt full/stuffed. I expressed that to my husband, as I was mystified and it being out of character. Shortly after, about 1/2 to 1 hour later, strong intestinal cramping occurred, along with extreme nausea to the point of feeling like I was going to vomit (something I haven’t done for over 20 or so years ago). Then, significant gas developed with no gut sounds or feeling of cramping, which was so painful I called my GI doctor back in Ohio to see what I should do. Nothing that I tried helped, and he explained that I was experiencing food poisoning. He informed me that it can develop as quickly as this hit me, and that it could take 2-3 weeks for your system to get back to normal. For me, it took 3 1/2 weeks. I will be much more cognizant of circumstances in the future, as he also educated me on the fact that creamy soups spoil rather quickly if left out too long. Since we ate at 3-3:30, I am imagining that it was leftover from the noon lunch hour. Never again! | Symptoms: Nausea, Diarrhea, Gas, Cramps
