Report Type: Food Poisoning
Symptoms: Diarrhea Nausea Vomiting
“Resort was clean and beautiful but my sister became violently ill on Day 2 of her holiday. She spent a full day and night vomiting. She wasn’t okay for the rest of the trip and barely ate. I fell ill the day before leaving. I had been feeling off with... See More moderate stomach cramping for two days before that. This, despite eating no fresh produce, washing my hands thoroughly and not drinking the water.

Report Type: Food Poisoning
Symptoms: Diarrhea Fever Nausea Vomiting
“I went with my wife and 2 kids in June of 2015 for 5 days. When we got back on June 25th, I had to be rushed to the ER for severe abdominal pain, including vomiting and diarrhea. The pain so so excruciating I had to call an ambulance. I... See More received 4 bags of IV which did not help. I started feeling like weak at the airport. I traced my illness to the one thing no one else in my family consumed. It was a prepared little alcoholic slushy drink at the lobby set on a tray at checkout on our way out. The onset of action was pretty quick as I felt feverish at the airport. Luckily, my wife found Advil for sale at the airport to hold me off until we arrived in NY.

“Our closet in our room had the worst smell. My wife and I couldn’t figure out what it was. We had never smelled something like this before.
However, we believe that we got sick after we ate at a remote island after a dive trip. The fever was extreme and... See More diarrhea and cramps lasted for a whole week. Never again!

“Went there may 2017, immediately my room smelt moldy. It felt wet in my room. The sheets were filthy. The shower was even more disgusting. They only cleaned the room if you begged them to, not to mention did not change the sheets unless begged. Had to tip the cleaning... See More people if you wanted anything done. One person on our trip was in the bathroom constantly after drinking and eating at the buffet and stayed sick for the remainder. My bed felt like it had bed bugs but no one else was getting bit. I was incredibly nauseous in my room with the constant smell. I complained but nothing was done. They hassle you to buy their timeshare the whole time waking you from your sleep at 6 in the morning just to sell you it trying to set up a breakfast to sell it. Never went to the breakfast after explicitly telling them to leave us be. The concierge comes on to you in a inappropriate way especially being that I’m a young girl it was uncomfortable. When I returned home my itching ceased. Almost positive it wasn’t bed bugs but a rash to some type of pesticides (the mold smell) in my room.

“I think I caught a piece of undercooked grilled chicken for dinner. I noticed it as I was enjoying it. It was undercooked and I hoped I didnt swallow a piece that was undercooked. Later that night at around 2am I had to go to the toilet and I had... See More diahrea. I didnt think much of it but then I had to go again this time to vomit. After committing I felt better. But then I got a fever and stayed in my room all day the next day. Later that night I had a little more energy and was able to enjoy the night show but was a bit fatigue from vomiting and diahrea. I still ate the rest of the days and stayed away from the chicken. However, I still returned to and had no complaints. Just not La Romana. This happened to me 6 years ago and I still get the after affects from that day. Doctor's here could not do anything for but said its common for stomach to go through trauma and habe after affects from it. My hearts go out to those who have lost their love ones . but I too believe I had something similar to these cases.

Report Type: Food Poisoning
Symptoms: Fever
“I visited the in February of this year. The day I returned I had high fever serve soar throat and my lymph nodes were enlarged. I went to the doctor for weeks and they could not determine what was going on. I could not eat swallow and move out of... See More my bed for weeks. My doctor did many blood test to determine that I had strain G strep throat which comes from live stock only. I was put on antibiotics which did not help. I then had to have my tonsils removed in May and I’m still recovering. I have never been this sick in my life. Due to this I will never travel to DR. Something needs to be done. I’ve reach out to the resort to try and get refunded for my medical bills and all doctor visits no response so I’ll be contacting an attorney.

Report Type: Food Poisoning
Symptoms: Diarrhea
“I vacationed in the Dominican Republic about 4-5 years ago. We stayed at the Bahia Principle La Romano. I saw the deaths being reported & decided to tell my story. We ate & drank at the resort only. Nice vacation but I became severely ill right before we left. By... See More the time we landed in Miami I was suffering from severe abdominal pain. I thought it may be bad food or a bug. Over the next few days it worsened. Doctor gave antibiotics but it did not help. Over the next 8 months I went to 12 doctors and through a battery of tests to no available. I finally landed with a doctor who says he doesn’t know what caused the initial pain. He said that whatever had caused the pain that it was so intense that my brain could not stop sending pain signals. I was put on meds to dull the pain & given a series of 12 to 15 injections in my abdomen each of the five times to stop the pain. It was extremely painful but after 2 1/2 years, many doctors & procedures & physical therapy I am now feeling better. I still have manageable effects. I cannot wear tight clothes or anything with zippers. I cannot exert myself to far or the pain returns. I cannot say definitively that it was caused by something at the resort but I truly believe it was. I will NEVER go back!!!

“While the food is presented beautifully the main entrees were recycled daily from previous days. The meats were tough and overcooked. I got what I believe was E-coli from something eaten in the restaurant and was sick for days - intestinal sickness and cramping. It was not a sickness with... See More vomiting which is the common "Montezuma's Revenge" from bad water. Symptoms matched up with E-coli contamination. The restaurant squirts a disinfectant on your hands when you enter the restaurant, but if the problem is in the kitchen this won't help prevent sicknesses!
