Public Health has completed an investigation into a Campylobacter outbreak linked to Stripe’s workplace cafeteria in Seattle, Washington. The outbreak, which affected five individuals, was traced back to meals consumed on September 15, 2025, with symptoms appearing between September 17 and 18. No hospitalizations or deaths were reported.
The investigation revealed that the likely source of the outbreak was undercooked chicken liver pâté served at the cafeteria, which is exclusively for Stripe employees. Symptoms experienced by those affected included diarrhea, stomach pain, fever, and joint pain. Public Health officials conducted interviews with the sick individuals to determine the cause and extent of the outbreak.
The issue was discovered following reports of illness, prompting Public Health to visit the cafeteria on October 15. During the inspection, they identified potential undercooking of the chicken liver pâté as a risk factor. The cafeteria was advised to implement stricter food safety measures, including deep cleaning and regular temperature checks. Follow-up visits on October 27 and November 10 confirmed that all recommended safety improvements had been implemented, effectively resolving the issue.
