United States
The Southern Nevada Health District is currently investigating five cases of acute gastrointestinal illnesses in Clark County, linked to the consumption of frozen half-shell oysters from South Korea. No hospitalizations have been reported at this time. The oysters in question were imported through California and were not distributed to grocery stores, but were available to restaurants. The affected individuals reported symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, nausea, and stomach pain, with some also experiencing fever, chills, headache, muscle aches, and fatigue. The Health District is collaborating with the Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health and the Food and Drug Administration in the ongoing investigation. The California Department of Public Health has also been notified due to the import route of the oysters.
The issue came to light when Clark County residents reported illness after consuming the oysters. The product details are as follows:
Processor Name: JBR (KR-15-SP)
Harvest Location: Designated Area No. 1, Republic of Korea
Harvest Date: Jan. 6, 2025
Best Before: Jan. 6, 2027
Lot Code: B250106.
The Health District is urging those who consumed oysters in April and are currently ill to contact their healthcare provider. To prevent further spread, thorough hand washing with soap and water, plus cleaning and disinfecting contaminated surfaces using a bleach-based household cleaner, is recommended.
If you or a loved one are harmed or experiencing any symptoms, it is important to report it. Reporting can help to detect & resolve outbreaks early and prevent others from being harmed, and enables better surveillance. If symptoms persist, seek medical care.
