Salmonella outbreak in Santa Pola, Alicante, Spain

The Ministry of Health is investigating a Salmonella outbreak linked to a local cafeteria in downtown Santa Pola, Spain on June 29, 2023. At least 25 have been affected by this outbreak, eight were still in hospital on Monday, July 03, 2023.Those affected have presented symptoms such as fever and gastroenteritis. The Ministry of Health has ordered the closure of the establishment.
The Ministry of Health has carried out analyses and tests to determine the origin of the outbreak, the main hypothesis being a possible contamination in the mayonnaise used in the salad. In addition, the hygienic conditions of the kitchen have been verified and tests have been carried out on the workers to detect possible carriers of the bacteria.
