Salmonella Outbreak Linked to Eggs from Milo's Poultry Farms and Tony's Fresh Market

####Update Oct 21, 2024

As of October 17, 2024, CDC has declared the outbreak over.

Source: FDA

In a recent outbreak, chicken eggs from Milo's Poultry Farms and Tony's Fresh Market have been linked to 65 cases of Salmonella across nine states in the USA (CA, UT, CO, MN, IA, WI, IL, MI, and VA). The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is currently investigating the situation.

The eggs in question include all types (conventional cage-free, organic, and non-GMO) and sizes (M, L, XL, Jumbo) supplied by Milo's Poultry Farms, LLC in Bonduel, Wisconsin. The recall covers all expiration dates for eggs labeled with "Milo's Poultry Farms" and "Tony's Fresh Market". These eggs were distributed to food service locations and retailers in Wisconsin, Illinois, and Michigan.

The issue came to light when the FDA and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) began assisting state and local partners from the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture Trade and Consumer Protection and Wisconsin Department of Health Services in an investigation of Salmonella Enteritidis infections. The illnesses began between May 23, 2024, and August 10, 2024. Of the 63 people with information available, 24 have been hospitalized, but no deaths have been reported.

The FDA conducted an onsite inspection and collected samples at Milo's Poultry Farms, LLC. Salmonella Enteritidis was detected in samples from the farm's packing facility and poultry house. Whole Genome Sequencing analysis determined that the Salmonella detected in these samples matches the strain causing illnesses in this outbreak. In response, Milo's Poultry Farm, LLC voluntarily recalled all eggs supplied by their farm. The FDA will continue to update the public as more information becomes available.

Consumers are advised to not eat the eggs and return it to where they purchased it.
