The New Mexico Department of Health (NMDOH) has initiated an investigation into a statewide outbreak of Cryptosporidiosis linked to a petting zoo at the New Mexico State Fair between September 7 and 17. Reportedly, 3 confirmed cases and 15 potential infections are spread across multiple counties.

The … See More
origin of this diarrheal disease rests in protozoan species, predominantly Cryptosporidium parvum and Cryptosporidium hominis. Those affected report frequent, non-bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and other symptoms like fatigue, vomiting, anorexia, and weight loss. While it is usually self-limiting, immunocompromised individuals could be at more risk. Symptoms can present within 2-14 days after exposure.

NMDOH is urging everyone with symptoms, especially those who visited the fair or had contact with someone who did, to seek testing. Patients, once tested positive, are advised to follow safety measures like refraining from swimming or caring for vulnerable individuals until two weeks after symptoms subside.

In case you are experiencing Cryptosporidiosis symptoms, it is important to report it. It can help to detect & resolve outbreaks early and prevent others from being harmed, and it enables better surveillance. If symptoms persist, seek medical care.

in Minnesota (MN). While the investigation is ongoing to determine what product made people sick, the outbreak appears to be over and there is likely no ongoing risk to consumers.

According to CDC, Cryptosporidiosis is a disease that causes watery diarrhea. It is caused by microscopic germs—parasites called Cryptosporidium. Cryptosporidium, or “Crypto” for short, can be found in water, food, soil or on surfaces or dirty hands that have been contaminated with the feces of humans or animals infected with the parasite.

Crypto symptoms typically start 2 to 10 days after infection (average 7 days) and include watery diarrhea, stomach discomfort, dehydration, nausea, vomiting, fever, and weight loss. Symptoms generally last 1 to 2 weeks for those with strong immune systems, with the possibility of lasting a few days to over 4 weeks. Watery diarrhea is the primary symptom, and some individuals may be asymptomatic.

In case you experienced Cryptosporidiosis symptoms, report it now. It can help to detect & resolve outbreaks early and prevent others from being harmed, and it enables better surveillance. If symptoms persist, seek medical care.

An outbreak of Cryptosporidium has been linked to Hazelgrove Farm in Ryde, UK, resulting in approximately 50 cases of illness. The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) and the Isle of Wight Council are currently investigating the incident. The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is also involved.

According … See More
to Dr. Anand Fernandes, health protection consultant for UKHSA South East, the farm took quick action to voluntarily stop the animal petting activity on May 1st, and they do not believe there is an ongoing risk to the public. The symptoms of Cryptosporidium can last for over two weeks in some people, but the agency does not expect to see new cases directly attributed to the farm beyond the 10th of May.

The cause of the outbreak has yet to be determined, but it is believed to have originated from the farm's animal petting activity. The UKHSA, Isle of Wight Council, and HSE are all working together to identify the source and take appropriate steps to prevent further infection.

In case you are experiencing Cryptosporidium symptoms such as watery diarrhea, stomach cramps, nausea, vomiting, and fever, it is important to report it. It can help to detect & resolve outbreaks early and prevent others from being harmed, and it enables better surveillance. If symptoms persist, seek medical care.

A friend brought me home a double-double Animal Style on Monday 6/14/2021 and 30 minutes later I started having profuse diarrhea that later turned bloody and then turned into rice-water stools for over a week and a half. I had a fever of 106 degrees, vomited everything … See More
else that I ate, had zero appetite, and had dizzy/fainting spells so bad that I could not stand or sit for even 15 seconds at a time. I was rushed to the ER this last Sunday, 6/20/2021, and was later diagnosed with E. Coli and Cryptosporidium, both of which come from cattle. This is the first time I have ever gotten food poisoning from there, and for a chain that places such a great emphasis on food safety, it really makes me question ever returning there let alone even dining out or eating animal products in the first place. I still cannot keep food or fluids down, I’m running a 100+ temperature, and it has now been a week and a half. My two other friends that ate there that day did not present any symptoms  | Symptoms: Nausea, Diarrhea, Vomiting, Other, Fever, Bloody Stool, Dizziness, Loss of Appetite
