An outbreak of Salmonella in Belgium linked to eggs has resulted in over 230 illnesses. The Federal Agency for the Safety of the Food Chain (FASFC) confirmed that 236 individuals have been affected by the Salmonella Enteritidis outbreak, with cases reported from February 2025 to May 2026.The outbreak has been traced back to eggs from Laerco BV, which issued a recall for eggs stamped with specific codes due to potential Salmonella contamination. The affected codes are "2-BE-1073-01", "2-BE-1073-02", "2-BE-1073-03", and "2-BE-1073-04", with best-before dates ranging from May 8 to June 5, 2026. The eggs were also distributed to France, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands. Measures such as FASFC supervision, limited contact with flocks, and cleaning and disinfection of premises have been implemented at Laerco BV.
The problem was discovered when Salmonella was detected in a dust sample from a Laerco BV chicken coop, which matched the strain found in patients. The Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) was notified, and an investigation
