Update June 1st, 2026:FSIS reported that whole genome sequencing (WGS) confirmed that beef kofta samples collected from Olympia Food Industries matched the outbreak strain of E. coli O157. This finding strengthens the link between the implicated beef kofta products and the ongoing outbreak investigation in California.
FSIS continues to coordinate with the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) and local health departments as the investigation remains ongoing.

Olympia Food Industries, Inc. has issued a public health alert for beef kofta products due to potential contamination with E. coli O157:H7. These products were supplied to The Kebab Shop restaurant locations in California, Texas, and Florida.
AFFECTED PRODUCT
- The Beef kofta was produced from raw ground beef
- By Olympia Foods (Est. 18743) in Franklin Park, Illinois, on January 6, 2026.
The alert involves products served at The Kebab Shop, which stopped selling the item on May 18, 2026.
The issue was identified during an investigation into an E. coli outbreak in California. The alert was issued on May 24, 2026, to inform consumers in the affected states.
