Sausage and Sliced Meat and Poultry Products recalled due to Sodium Nitrite Levels

9 months ago source fsis.usda.gov

New York, United States

Smith Packing, LLC, a New York-based company, is recalling approximately 18,792 pounds of various ready-to-eat sausage and sliced meat and poultry products. The recall is due to sodium nitrite levels exceeding the regulatory limit, as announced by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS). The products were distributed to institutional and retail locations in New York. The issue was identified after Smith Packing, LLC received consumer complaints about products that had an off-taste and off-color.

AFFECTED PRODUCTS:
- Ready-to-eat Sausage and Sliced Meat, and Poultry items
- Produced between February 19, 2025, and April 24, 2025.
- The products bear establishment numbers “EST. 4578” or “P-4578” inside the USDA mark of inspection

Consumers and institutions who have purchased these products are urged not to consume or use them. These products should be returned to the place of purchase.

If you or a loved one is harmed or experiencing any symptoms, it is important to report it. Reporting can help to detect & resolve outbreaks early and prevent others from being harmed, and enables better surveillance. If symptoms persist, seek medical care.
