Shellstock Oyster recalled due to Norovirus Contamination

Update April 17, 2026:The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a “Do Not Eat” advisory for recalled shellfish harvested by Gomez Shellfish, LLC (WA-1724-SS). The advisory now includes additional distribution to Texas, alongside previously reported states (California, Oregon, and Washington), with the possibility of further distribution to other states.
The FDA is advising consumers, restaurants, and retailers not to eat, serve, or sell the affected shellfish and to properly dispose of them due to potential Norovirus contamination.
The agency also noted that the investigation is ongoing and that additional updates may follow as more information becomes available.

April 16th, 2026:
Gomez Shellfish, LLC is recalling shellstock oysters due to Norovirus-like illnesses linked to raw oyster consumption. The affected oysters were harvested from a small portion of Hammersley Inlet and distributed in Washington, Oregon, and California.
AFFECTED PRODUCT
PRODUCT: All species of shellstock oysters
- Harvested by Gomez Shellfish, LLC
- Identified by harvester number WA-1724-SS.
- The recall dates are from March 22, 2026, to April 9, 2026.
- The quantity of oysters recalled has not been specified.
The issue was identified following reports of Norovirus-like illnesses. The recall was initiated by Washington on April 10, 2026. Washington State Department of Health is continuing to gather information and provide updates.
