Bloody Diarrhea After Chicken - Carl's Jr, Santa Rosa California

5 months ago reported by user-nnbdg494 business

Carl’s Jr., Stony Point Road, Santa Rosa, CA, USA

495 Stony Point Road, Santa Rosa, 95401 California, United States

On July 21, my wife and I went to carl's jr. She got a burger, I got a chicken sandwich. That night I began suffering intense diarrhea, mild fever, chills, and cramps. The following day I spent in bed with occasional fevers, unable to eat or keep fluids down. The vomiting lasted two days but the diarrhea and lack of appetite continued through Saturday evening, when I had my first meal in 5 days. I was starting to feel better but I was still malnourished and the diarrhea continued. Tuesday morning (the 29th) my diarrhea became bloody, so I went to the ER. They put me on IV for fluid replacement and electrolytes.

The test for C. Diff came back negative and my electrolyte levels recovered, but my white blood cell count was low so they sent me home with some antibiotics and potassium. A few days later, the hospital called back and said my diarrhea tested positive for campylobacter jejuni, a strain strongly associated with improperly prepared poultry.

The health department also sent me a letter asking to contact them because of the high risk of spreading.

This was the first time we had eaten out in weeks. My wife and I had been eating the same food we cooked ourselves before we went to Carl's junior and ordered different items, and she didn't get sick.

Now I have a $14k hospital bill which is clearly Carl's Jr's responsibility. | Symptoms: Nausea, Diarrhea, Vomiting, Stomach Pain, Fever, Cramps, Chills, Headache
