Tilapia Illness: Severe Diarrhea - Hello Fresh, Berlin Berlin

On May 6, 2026, my husband and I ate a HelloFresh dish with cichlid, "Tilapia" from Indonesia, frozen in March 2025. According to the packaging, it should be edible for 2 years after freezing. Either the cold chain was interrupted somewhere or a germ was already present when freezing. In any case, it started the same evening, about 1 hour later, with my husband having severe diarrhea. The next day 39°C fever, he lay in bed all day and was barely responsive... I only had mild cramps (I have an iron stomach), but still had symptoms nonetheless. Diarrhea persisted in my husband for more than a week. Laboratory analysis of the stool (around day 5) showed no gastrointestinal bacteria (anymore), which according to the doctor suggests that the trigger was a food item. Now, 3 weeks later, he is just getting to the point where he can eat normally again. | Symptoms: Diarrhea, Fever, Cramps
