Mozzarella Illness at Resort - All Inclusive, Punta Cana La Altagracia

3 days ago reported by user-ykftv742 business

Royalton Bavaro Resort & Casino, Punta Cana, All-Inclusive Resort & Casino, Highway Macao, Bávaro, Punta Cana, Dominican Republic

Highway Macao, Punta Cana, 23000 La Altagracia, Dominican Republic

On January 23rd, ten of us dined at the Italian restaurant for dinner. Three of us ordered the mozzarella ball, and every one of us who ate it became violently ill. One person became sick on the 24th, and the remaining three (including my husband, who only had a little bite) became ill on the 25th. We experienced extreme diarrhea, fever, chills, body aches, and nausea. It was absolutely miserable. Several of us missed days of work after returning home, and some are still sick today. This is completely unacceptable. No one should get Salmonella poisoning from cheese. This points directly to cross-contamination and unsanitary food handling practices, which is both alarming and frankly disgusting.

Update February 5th, 2026:
We are still experiencing mild symptoms a week later. We all have been treated by antibiotics . We have been in contact with our Public Health and getting salmonella poisoning from a mozzarella ball is highly unlikely. This means that it was caused by cross contamination or unsafe handling such as not washing hands properly after using the bathroom. The resort needs to be investigated. No one should ever have to go through this. | Symptoms: Nausea, Fever, Chills, Body Ache
