Idaho, United States
The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare (DHW) has reported an outbreak of illnesses linked to raw milk consumption, with 23 cases of Campylobacter and 3 cases of Shiga toxin-producing E. coli (STEC) infections. The illnesses, affecting multiple individuals across Idaho, include six children under 12, with two hospitalizations.Since August 1, 2025, the DHW has been investigating the outbreak in collaboration with local and state partners. The infections have been traced back to raw milk from various brands, highlighting the potential health risks associated with consuming unpasteurized dairy products. Campylobacter and STEC can cause severe gastrointestinal symptoms, and STEC, in particular, poses significant risks to young children.
The outbreak was identified through reports from individuals who fell ill after consuming raw milk. Health officials are urging consumers to be cautious and consider the risks, especially for vulnerable groups such as young children, pregnant women, the elderly, and immunocompromised individuals. The DHW continues to monitor the situation and advises those experiencing symptoms to seek medical attention.
