Gastrointestinal outbreak linked with Egg Ceteras Blue Star Cafe & Pub

1 year ago source kingcounty.gov

4512 Stone Way North, Seattle, 98103 Washington, United States

Egg Ceteras Blue Star Cafe & Pub in Seattle has been linked to a gastrointestinal illness outbreak, with two patrons falling ill after consuming fried sliced potatoes suspected to contain a bacterial toxin.

On August 19, 2024, Public Health was alerted to two individuals, not from the same household, who exhibited symptoms consistent with bacterial toxin exposure, after dining at the restaurant on August 18, 2024.

The issue was discovered when both affected individuals were interviewed about their activities and meals in the seven days prior to falling ill. The only commonality was their shared meal at Egg Ceteras Blue Star Cafe & Pub on August 18, 2024.

A subsequent inspection of the restaurant on September 4, 2024, revealed unsafe food cooling and refrigeration practices, particularly in the preparation of the sliced potatoes - the dish both individuals had consumed. The restaurant rectified these issues during the inspection and staff were educated on safe food cooling procedures. A follow-up visit on September 18, 2024, confirmed the restaurant's adherence to safe food preparation practices, with no health violations found.

This outbreak is over, and our investigation is complete.

If you or a loved one are harmed or experiencing any symptoms, it is important to report it. Reporting can help to detect & resolve outbreaks early and prevent others from being harmed, and enables better surveillance. If symptoms persist, seek medical care.
