Gastrointestinal outbreak linked with Fuji Sushi

1 year ago source kingcounty.gov

520 South Main Street, Seattle, 98104 Washington, United States

Fuji Sushi is currently under investigation due to a reported outbreak of gastrointestinal illness. Five individuals have reported symptoms consistent with a bacterial infection after dining at the establishment on September 16, 2024.

Since September 19, 2024, five people let us know they became sick after eating food at Fuji Sushi on September 16, 2024. All five people had one or more signs consistent with a bacterial infection. No identification of any sick restaurant workers.

On September 25, 2024, it is found that many unsafe food safety practices including restaurant staff not washing their hands properly and not wearing gloves when touching different food items. Restaurant prepared food items in a way that allowed for ready-to-eat foods to be contaminated by raw foods. Because of the many unsafe food safety practices seen at the restaurant, Public Health closed Fuji Sushi immediately and they will not reopen until we revisit the restaurant to make sure they have fixed these problems.

If you or a loved one are harmed or experiencing any symptoms, it is important to report it. Reporting can help to detect & resolve outbreaks early and prevent others from being harmed, and enables better surveillance. If symptoms persist, seek medical care.
