France
France is currently dealing with a Listeria outbreak linked to meat products from Drôme Ardèche Tradition, resulting in two deaths and 10 illnesses. The outbreak has affected 12 individuals across various regions, with the majority of cases in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. All patients have been hospitalized, and the median age is 81.The outbreak was identified through epidemiological investigations in February, which revealed that several patients had consumed pâté en croûte. Further traceability investigations connected the illnesses to products from Drôme Ardèche Tradition, a company based in Bourg-de-Péage. The affected products include caillettes, pâtés en croûte, and other cooked charcuterie.
The problem was discovered following an inspection of the Drôme Ardèche Tradition plant by the Drôme Departmental Directorate for Population Protection. Official samples were taken, leading to the suspension of operations and a product recall. Analysis by the National Reference Centre (CNR) Listeria at Institut Pasteur confirmed that the strains from the products were genetically similar to those from the patients, establishing a direct link.
