Hawaii, United States
Update November 10th, 2025:The Hawaii Department of Health (DOH) confirmed that both individuals infected with Listeria monocytogenes in the state were sickened by the same outbreak strain connected to recalled prepared pasta meals. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), this multistate outbreak has now caused at least 27 illnesses and six deaths nationwide, including one fatality in Hawaii involving a person aged 65 or older.
DOH reported that one of the recalled products, Scott & Jon’s Shrimp Scampi with Linguini bowls, was sold at Safeway stores in Hawaii and included ingredients from Nate’s Fine Foods suspected of contamination. However, investigations found no evidence that the two Hawaii patients had consumed any recalled items.
Nationally, the CDC continues to investigate whether other pre-made pasta meals or deli salads may be contaminated. Of the 13 people interviewed so far, seven reported eating precooked meals and four specifically mentioned chicken fettuccine alfredo purchased at Walmart or Kroger stores.

November 5th, 2025:
A listeria outbreak linked to prepared pasta meals has resulted in one death and one illness in Hawaii, according to the Hawaii State Department of Health. The outbreak strain has been confirmed in both individuals, though the exact source of their infections remains unidentified.
The outbreak has been associated with recalled products, including Sprouts Farmers Market smoked mozzarella pasta salad and Scott & Jon’s shrimp scampi with linguini bowls. However, these products were not distributed in Hawaii, and investigations into the food consumption history of the affected individuals have shown no direct link to the recalled items. Listeria infections can cause severe symptoms, particularly in high-risk groups, including meningitis and complications during pregnancy.
The problem was discovered through routine health monitoring and investigations by the Hawaii State Department of Health. Officials are continuing to trace the source of the infection, emphasizing the difficulty in pinpointing specific food items consumed by the patients prior to their illness. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports a total of 27 listeria cases nationwide, urging consumers to avoid the recalled products.
