Florida, United States
The Florida Department of Health has reported an outbreak of Campylobacter and Shiga toxin-producing E. coli (STEC) infections linked to raw milk from a farm in Northeast and Central Florida in the United States. Twenty-one people, including six children under 10, have fallen ill, with seven hospitalizations reported. The outbreak has raised concerns about the farm's sanitation practices, as the raw milk has been identified as the source of the infections. The illnesses have resulted in severe complications for at least two individuals.
The problem was discovered following reports of gastrointestinal illnesses among consumers of raw milk from the farm. Health officials traced the infections back to the farm's raw milk, prompting an investigation into the handling and sanitation procedures. The Florida Department of Health is urging consumers to be aware of the risks associated with raw milk consumption and to make informed decisions about their health.
