The Lexington-Fayette County Health Department (LFCHD) has reported a Salmonella outbreak linked to Ramsey's Diner and Missy's Pies, affecting ten individuals. The cases include residents from Fayette, Jessamine, Mercer, and Fleming counties, as well as one out-of-state resident. The outbreak is associated with custard-based pies and cheesecakes consumed between June 17-20, 2025.The investigation revealed that all affected individuals had eaten at various Ramsey's Diner locations, consuming desserts such as custard pies topped with meringue or cheesecake. The LFCHD advises discarding any leftover pies from these establishments. Symptoms of Salmonella infection typically appear 6 to 48 hours after exposure and include diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps. Most symptoms resolve within a week, but severe cases may require medical attention.
The outbreak was identified after the LFCHD received reports of illness on June 27, 2025. Collaboration with Ramsey's and Missy's Pies led to the disposal of potentially contaminated pies and thorough cleaning of the preparation areas. Samples of pies and eggs have been sent for testing, though no definitive source has been identified yet. The establishments have resumed operations with a focus on lower-risk
