Salmonella Outbreak Linked to Family Cow Milk

7 months ago source alleghenycounty.us

Pennsylvania, United States

The Allegheny County Health Department (ACHD) has issued a public health alert advising residents to discard all The Family Cow brand raw milk and raw-milk cheese products following the detection of Salmonella. Four residents have fallen ill in Allegheny County since July 1, 2025, after consuming these products. The outbreak has prompted an investigation by the Pennsylvania Departments of Health and Agriculture, which have been tracking over 70 reported Salmonella infections since August 2024. Several affected individuals reported consuming raw milk products from The Family Cow, which are sold at the farm's Chambersburg retail store and through an online platform with six pickup locations in Allegheny County.

The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture confirmed that samples from The Family Cow farm tested positive for Salmonella in July 2025. Further testing is required before the farm can resume sales or distribution. Consumers are advised to be vigilant about product labels and origins when purchasing raw milk products.

Salmonella can cause symptoms such as diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps. Those at higher risk of severe illness include children
