Food Safety Report - Viva Wyndham Dominicus Palace, Dominicus La Altagracia

15 hours ago reported by user-jyqk6162 business

Viva Wyndham Dominicus Palace, Dominicus, Dominican Republic

Dominicus, 23000 La Altagracia, Dominican Republic

we experienced a serious health issue after dining at the resort. We had a dinner reservation at the Viva Café a la Carte restaurant (Viva Beach) at 6:15 PM on Thursday, March 19. We arrived around 6:35 PM and were served dinner around 7:00 PM. Both my brother and I ordered the tuna steak, which had an unusual taste and a rubber-like consistency. Approximately 2 hours after the meal, my brother began projectile vomiting repeatedly (at least six times), followed by ongoing vomiting and severe diarrhea throughout the night. I developed similar symptoms approximately 2,5 hours after the meal, including severe vomiting and diarrhea that continued overnight. We were both significantly dehydrated, extremely weak, and unable to eat. It is important to note that the four of us spent the entire day together, eating and drinking the same meals, and we did not consume any alcohol. The only difference was that my brother and I were the only ones who ate the tuna steak. Based on this, there is a clear correlation between the tuna steak and the illness we experienced. This was a very distressing experience that resulted in the complete loss of the following two days. We had a planned and prepaid excursion to Santo Domingo on Friday, March 20 ($420 for four people), which we were unable to attend due to our condition. We were physically unable to walk properly, exhausted, and confined to our rooms. What is particularly concerning is that I reported these symptoms early the following morning at approximately 6:30 AM to our travel agency representative, Jaroslav, and informed him that we were unable to attend the excursion due to our condition. I also attempted to contact him for guidance regarding medical care, including whether we should seek hospital evaluation or IV treatment, but he was unavailable due to poor signal and advised he could not come to the hotel as he was working and going to the airport. As a result, I was left without assistance or guidance during a medical situation. Additionally, I contacted the front desk around 7:00 AM and informed them that we had experienced food poisoning symptoms. However, no recommendation for medical evaluation or assistance was provided. Additionally, I want to note that a prior serious incident was reported in December 2023 at a related Viva property, which resulted in the death of two individuals, a Canadian mother and her child, reportedly linked to food poisoning. This makes the current situation even more concerning from a health and safety perspective. | Symptoms: Nausea, Diarrhea, Vomiting
