Chocolate can cause food poisoning. In the past, Salmonella outbreaks have been traced back to cacao beans that chocolate is made from and cause food poisoning. Symptoms of Salmonella poisoning can begin as soon as 12 hours after eating and include bloody diarrhea, cramping, and fever
