A recent outbreak of Salmonella in Sweden has been linked to eggs from CA Cedergrens, according to a statement released by the Swedish government. CA Cedergens after an outbreak was confirmed had to kill 164,000 chickens.

Salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis, and arthritis.

The firm’s subsequent investigation identified the root cause as a temporary breakdown in the company's supplier documentation process. The process has been corrected and the company has instituted additional safety checks and corrective actions, including discontinuing the use of this particular flavoring ingredient.

This recall is being made with the knowledge of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Consumers with a peanut allergy who have purchased the affected products are urged not to consume the product and dispose of it or return it to their place of purchase for a full refund.
