3AM Milkshake Misery - Denny's, Missoula Montana

Denny's

Missoula, Montana, United States

I went to Denny's around 3 A.M. following a vigorous workout. I was 100% sober; I mention that so people don't draw the wrong conclusion based on the time. I had a vanilla milkshake and a fit slam (turkey bacon, eggs, English muffin & jam, leafy greens). It was delicious, and I took about an hour finishing it. I noticed some stomach pain when I was done but I assumed it was due to the milkshake's richness. I woke up the next day around 11 A.M., feeling a bit uncomfortable, which I attributed to the late night. I ignored my symptoms, ate a light meal (muffin and banana), and went for another hard cardio workout, at the end of which I felt terrible, but I just assumed I'd pushed myself too hard. There is no question, btw, that I was staying well-hydrated all week before, during, and after exercise. Well, after the gym I went to work, which would put the time around 3:30. Over the next 7 hours I vomited 7 times. I tried to eat a piece of corn bread and an egg on my lunch break and couldn't keep it down for 5 minutes. Of course I became very dehydrated and my stomach was emptied. Do you know that yellow bile you puke up when you are really sick? Well, I was not heaving that up, but spewing it out with considerable force. I also had a bit of diarrhea, but not that severe. The next day I felt weak, of course, from puking so many times, but no nausea or vomiting and a healthy appetite. The mild diarrhea persisted until that evening, but got better on its own as well. I can't say for sure it was Denny's that made me sick, but I strongly suspect it was. | Symptoms: Diarrhea, Nausea, Vomiting, Dehydration, Weakness, Stomach Pain, Bile
