I'd been fasting since 8pm Thursday night in advance of a lab appointment Friday morning, so had not eaten any other food. At ~12:45pm Friday (per my receipt) I treated myself to a shrimp burrito with black beans and a hibiscus agua fresca, along with some salsa from the salsa bar. I drove an hour home and had a long afternoon nap. When I woke up I felt something was off, and didn't want to eat dinner. At 6:20pm I texted to cancel with friends who were supposed to come over, because I was feeling too poorly to host them. By 7:30pm I'd had my first bouts of diarrhea and vomiting, accompanied by intermittent fever and chills. Over the next five hours I watched every last black bean come back up and desperately tried to find a stable state but I couldn't keep anything down, not even pedialyte or gatorade. I finally fell asleep around 2:30am. I could not believe the shocking amount of liquid that left my body during those hours. Because of my lab appointment and my weight in the morning, I know that I lost 7 pounds in a single day, and I have spent the last two days recovering as if I had the worst hangover of my life. On both Saturday and Sunday I had difficulty catching my breath just after walking up stairs in my house and washing dishes.
