Around 2pm on Sunday, November 17th my brother in law, my wife and I visited here. We purchased 1 burger with fries and 3 frosty's. I had the burger, we shared the fries and I had a chocolate frosty. The other 2 frosty's were peppermint. It was... the last thing I ate. I started feeling ill around 6pm but tried brushing it off until the next morning. I went to work for 3am and felt horrible on the 28th. At 5am I vomited and went home. A serious amount of diarrhea followed and I've been bed ridden ever since. | Symptoms: Nausea, Diarrhea, Vomiting

There is currently an outbreak of Hepatitis A associated with the consumption of frozen berries. In the January 12, 2023, Hepatitis outbreak update, a total of 35 locally-acquired cases of hepatitis A with identical or near-identical sequence profiles have been linked to the current outbreak since 28 June 2022. 3 new cases associated with the outbreak have been identified since the last update. 7 cases with the outbreak sequence profile did not report consuming berries. Of all cases, 34 are genotype IA and have an identical or very similar sequence profile, which indicates they likely came from the same source. Sequencing for one case linked to the outbreak is pending.
New Zealand Food Safety’s advice to consumers is to:
- Briefly boil frozen berries before eating them, or if you have a thermometer at home, ensure cooking temperatures exceed 85 degrees Celsius for 1 minute. Heated berries can be safely refrozen for later use.
- If you microwave berries, you should stir half-way through the cooking process to make sure they are cooked through. Microwave’s settings will vary, the important thing is to ensure the berries reach boiling.
- Wash your hands before eating and preparing food.
People who have these products at home should not eat them raw. Bringing them to the boil will make them safe, or they can be returned to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Husband and I got dinner the night of January 2. I got steak tacos with cheese and pico. Very very simple order. It was the bottom of the barrel on the steak. Woke up at 3 AM feeling a lot of acid reflux. Went back to sleep.... Woke up at 5 AM and ran to the bathroom. I was doubled over on the floor with both projectile vomiting and projectile diarrhea.
I was extremely nauseous. I kept running back to the bathroom to throw up and hit the toilet. Finally an hour later I went to the ER. They put me on IV fluids, including anti nausea meds, because I kept throwing up. They couldn't find a vein because they all collapsed from dehydration. After a few hours I was released with strict orders to only drink watered down Gatorade and no food. It was hell. It took me a week to fully rebound. | Symptoms: Nausea, Diarrhea, Vomiting, Dehydration, Acid reflux

The CDC is investigating a Norovirus Outbreak linked to the P&O Cruises Arcadia from December 29, 2022 to January 3, 2023. 84 passengers have reported being ill during the voyage out of a total of 1,986 (4.23%) passengers onboard. of the 818 crew members, 10 have reported... being ill during the voyage, that is 1.22% of all crew. The predominant symptoms are vomiting and diarrhea.
The Arcadia current location is at the North West Atlantic Ocean en route to the Port of Freeport in the Bahamas.
The gastrointestinal illness cases reported are totals for the entire voyage and do not represent the number of active (symptomatic) gastrointestinal cases at any given port of call or at disembarkation.
In response to the outbreak, P&O Cruises and the crew aboard the ship reported the following actions:
- Increased cleaning and disinfection procedures according to the ship’s outbreak prevention and response plan
- Collected stool specimens from passenger and/or crew gastrointestinal illness cases
- Notified embarking guests of the situation onboard and encouraged illness reporting and good hand hygiene.
VSP monitored the situation and the ship’s outbreak response and sanitation procedures.
Norovirus is very contagious and is easily transmitted from person to person most through the oral/fecal route. Considering that hand sanitizer does NOT work against this virus, it is important to wash your hands with soap frequently. Use bleach to clean and disinfect surfaces.
