Colonna Brothers of North Bergen, NJ is recalling its 1.5oz Marcum Ground Cinnamon & 2.25oz Supreme Tradition Ground Cinnamon because of a possible health risk due to elevated lead levels. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with these products. The Cinnamon was distributed nationwide... See More through retail stores and mail order.

Short term exposures to very low levels of lead may not elicit any symptoms. It is possible that increased blood lead levels may be the only apparent sign of lead exposure. Additional signs and symptoms of lead exposure are more likely with acute exposure to higher levels of lead or chronic exposure to lead. The effects depend upon the amount and duration of lead exposure and age/ body weight. If a child is exposed to enough lead for a protracted period of time (e.g., weeks to months) permanent damage to the central nervous system may occur. This can result in learning disorders, developmental defects, and other long-term health problems. For adults, chronic lead exposure is associated with kidney dysfunction, hypertension, and neurocognitive effects.

The products come in a clear plastic jar labeled with either “Marcum Cinnamon Ground 1.5oz” or “Supreme Tradition Ground Cinnamon 2.25oz”. Only the following lot codes (found on the jar above the label - below the cap) were affected:

Product: 1.5oz Marcum Ground Cinnamon, Best By:10/16/25 10DB
Product: 1.5oz Marcum Ground Cinnamon, Best By: 04/06/25 0400B1
Product: 2.25oz Supreme Tradition Ground Cinnamon, Best By:09/29/25 09E8
Product: 2.25oz Supreme Tradition Ground Cinnamon, Best By:04/17/25 04E11
Product: 2.25oz Supreme Tradition Ground Cinnamon, Best By:12/19/25 12C2
Product: 2.25oz Supreme Tradition Ground Cinnamon, Best By:04/12/25 04ECB12
Product: 2.25oz Supreme Tradition Ground Cinnamon, Best By:08/24/25 08A
Product: 2.25oz Supreme Tradition Ground Cinnamon, Best By:04/21/25 04E5
Product: 2.25oz Supreme Tradition Ground Cinnamon, Best By:09/22/2025 09E20

The recall was the result of a targeted sampling program of discount brands by the FDA, following heightened sensitivity around Cinnamon. Colonna Brothers is participating in this recall voluntarily as requested by the FDA. Colonna Brother’s has not violated any Federal guidelines/legislation/laws regarding levels of lead in Cinnamon/Spice nor any protocols requiring testing for heavy metals. The FDA is stating that the lot codes above contain elevated levels of lead that the FDA deems a potential health risk.

Colonna Brothers has voluntarily ceased the production and distribution of all Cinnamon.

Consumers who have purchased the Supreme Tradition Ground Cinnamon or Marcum Ground Cinnamon, with the lot codes listed above, can return it to the store for a full refund. Anyone concerned they may have been exposed to lead, should contact their healthcare provider to report their symptoms.

If you are experiencing symptoms after eating this product it is important to report it. It can help to detect & resolve outbreaks early and prevent others from being harmed, and it enables better surveillance. If symptoms persist seek medical attention.

My brother (26) ate a banana under the Chiquita brand from Sams Club this morning (March 6, 2024) and immediately got tingling lips, diarrhea, and severe nausea within the hour and lasted for over 2 hours. My mother also peeled a banana to inspect it and noticed... See More the banana snapped in half like plastic when she went to bite it. She opted to use her hands to break it in half and it “felt like hard plastic” she said. Though they are perfectly ripe.. | Symptoms: Nausea, Diarrhea See Less

On Sunday, 3/3/24 I ate at Raffi’s place with my girlfriend and it was both of our second times eating there. Our first time going was very good but this time there was something off. My girlfriend and I ordered the luleh kebab plate and we both... See More had severe vomiting, diarrhea, nausea, fever, and body aches. She got sick that evening and had to call sick into work the next day and could not move from her bed. Two days later on Tuesday, 3/5/24 her brother who had our leftovers had the same symptoms. That same evening I started getting the same symptoms. We gave him the leftovers because we didn’t think it was Raffi’s place at first. After we called the restaurant, the manager just said it most likely was not from their food. This is one of the worst illnesses I have ever had. Needless to say, I will not be going back to Raffi’s place any time soon. | Symptoms: Nausea, Diarrhea, Vomiting, Fever, Body Ache See Less

I ate here this past Sunday 3/3/24 with my boyfriend and it was my second time trying their food. My first experience there was exceptional but there was something clearly not right with the food this past time. I ordered the luleh kebab plate and had horrible... See More vomiting, diarrhea, nausea, fever, and body aches for 3 days. I had to call sick into work and could barely move. I felt like this was one of the worst stomach illnesses I have ever experienced as it had me bed-ridden. I also didn’t initially think that it was Raffi’s food and assumed it was something else because of my positive experience there in the past so I gave my brother my leftovers. Sure enough, he was throwing up at work just 12 hrs after and is currently experiencing the same exact symptoms. Also, my boyfriend fell sick with the same symptoms yesterday, Tuesday 3/6, (he ordered the same dish as me). After calling the restaurant, the manager had nothing to say except that it was very unlikely that it was from their food. I am so disappointed with Raffi’s place. | Symptoms: Nausea, Diarrhea, Vomiting, Fever, Body Ache See Less
