California, United States
The Orange County Health Care Agency (HCA) reported 7 cases of Salmonella linked to unpasteurized milk and cream products produced by Raw Farm LLC. The affected individuals consumed the company's raw whole milk or raw heavy cream prior to falling ill.According to the HCA, all seven patients fell sick within the last month. Investigations continue in collaboration with the California Department of Public Health and the California Department of Food and Agriculture to understand the extent of the issue. Simultaneously, retailers selling Raw Farm LLC's products are being informed about the recall issued by the company.
The HCA officials pointed out the risks associated with consuming raw milk, particularly "unpasteurized" dairy products. Unlike pasteurized dairy, raw milk bypasses the heating process that eliminates harmful germs like Salmonella, Listeria, and E. coli. Thus, consuming raw milk and its related products poses significant health risks, according to the CDC and FDA.
This outbreak follows a similar incident last week in San Diego, where Salmonella infections were traced back to products from the same dairy producer.
In case you are experiencing Salmonella symptoms such as diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and fever, it is important to report it. It can help to detect & resolve outbreaks early and prevent others from being harmed, and it enables better surveillance. If symptoms persist, seek medical care.
