I drank a cup of coffee and ate a bowl of Honey Nut Chex for breakfast around 7:00am on 11/20. Almost 20 minutes after I felt mild stomach discomfort but just figured it was the coffee doing it’s magic. Throughout the rest of the day my stomach... See More problems got progressively worse and I was extremely gassy, I even tried eating other easily digestible food in hopes that my stomach could just figure out what was wrong. By 5pm I was exhausted from the discomfort and all of the belches and flatulence coming from my body and I took a nap hoping I’d wake up fine. The nap lasted till around 9pm and I am writing this from my bathroom floor at 10pm after my body decided to empty its vessel from both ends. I have been projectile vomiting and having explosive diarrhea for over an hour. I got the snack on 7/18 on my ride back from Utah (Amtrak). I saved it for (and then ate it during) my 15 minute break at work on 7/20 around 1am. Glenn Wayne Bakery of Bohemia, NY recalled Chocolate Iced Donuts, Boston Cream Donuts, Brownies and Walnut Brownies out of an abundance of caution because of a potential foreign material hazard in its icing which can cause serious injury if swallowed. These products were distributed to New York... See More State’s Westchester, Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, Bronx, Staten Island, Nassau, Suffolk, Dutchess and Rockland counties in retail stores. All products were pulled from shelves immediately upon notice. There have been no reported injuries to date.
The recalled products are Chocolate Iced Donuts, Boston Cream Donuts, Brownies and Walnut Brownies. Donuts were packed into paper-lined trays for self-service; donuts were made on 12/15/22, and no lot information is available on trays once placed on display. Brownies came in a 3.5-ounce, clear plastic package marked with a best by date of 12/18/22 on the bottom.
The recall was the result of a consumer complaint of glass in the donut icing, which was later proved to be unfounded (i.e., confirmed to be sucrose) by a food forensics laboratory. The company has ceased using the icing and as a result of the food forensics laboratory’s investigation, considers the matter an isolated and closed incident.
If you have the recalled products in your home, please do not eat them, throw them away or return them to the place of purchase.
