Found Rooster & Rice when I moved to SF a couple months ago. I’m a creature of habit and really liked their “original” dish, so I would order it fairly regularly. My stomachs would often get a little “gurgly”, but I didn’t take much notice of it.... See More A couple weeks ago I started eating it for lunch a lot and ended up having it 5 out of 6 days in a row. (There are actually 2 different locations of the restaurant I order from, Filbert and Kearny). I must have hit a tipping point because about 5 hours after eating it I had acute stomach pains and ended up having very wet diarrhea, cramping, and feelings of constipation every hour or so for the next 24 hours. It got worse to the point where I broke out sweating and I was getting light headed, and I ended up going to the emergency room.

At this point I didn’t attribute my symptoms to their food since I had had it several times before. The doctor said it could have been a virus I caught or food poisoning, but it was hard to tell. I decided it was most likely a virus since my wife had eaten the same dish with me 2 of the times and had stomachs “gurglyness” but nothing serious. My friend had eaten the same dish with me on the day I had the serious symptoms - he didn’t have major issues, but he did end up waking up in the middle of the night needing to take a “really weird and gnarly dump.”

I basically just ate applesauce, bananas, bread, and homemade soup for the next week and a half till all my symptoms had resolved and my bowel movement had returned to normal.

After the 1.5 weeks of recovery, I decided I was ready for “real food” again. I had chicken and rice from other restaurants, Indian food, sushi, and several other meals that were all fine. Then my wife and I ordered their food again (I did order it from the other location - I was really hoping it wasn’t food poisoning, but didn’t want to risk the same location just in case it was a restaurant specific issue). My wife had significant abdominal discomfort, but no serious symptoms. I was launched right back into all of my acute symptoms of extreme abdominal cramping and hourly wet diarrhea for about 2 days. I am still recovering, but now I am extremely concerned about this chain.

I’m not a doctor, and this wasn’t confirmed in a stool sample or anything, but I read about food poisoning from Clostridium Perfringens, and my symptoms and timelines match the descriptions perfectly. My guess is that there are very small amounts in the food (which explains the mild symptoms my wife friend and I experienced), but I had a build up do to how frequently I ate it in a short time. | Symptoms: Diarrhea, Sweating, Stomach Pain, Constipation, Cramps
