Salmonella Strikes: Severe Symptoms - Denny's, Melrose Park Illinois

2 years ago reported by user-ptbgq817

Denny’s, 8349 W North Ave, Melrose Park, IL 60160, United States

Saturday November 16, 2019. Salmonella To whom it may concern

On Saturday November 16th, 2019 I and my son ate from this location in the afternoon hours around 12:00pm. I had scrambled eggs, bacon, seasoned red potatoes, toast and orange juice. My son had 3 silver dollar pancakes, bacon, seasonal fruit and orange juice.
Later that evening around 6:00pm is when my stomach started to hurt as well as my sons. We laid in the bed with stomach aches until around 6:45pm. I continued to go to the bathroom with nausea, diarrhea & vomiting shortly after my head started to hurt. Around 7:00pm my son said “mommy my tummy still hurt” then went to the bathroom with nausea, diarrhea and vomiting.
We both laid in bed with pain and discomfort in our stomach’s and head to trying to sleep but tossed and turned unable to sleep due to running back & fourth to the bathroom.
November 17th, 2019, I had bloody diarrhea that morning with muscle aches and really bad cramps unable to move I had to struggle to get to the bathroom laying on the floor because with all the aches & pains the bed was not as comfortable as the floor with carpet.
November 18, 2019, I suffered with much worse stomach cramps and continuously vomiting, bloody diarrhea, muscle ache, and headaches, I could hardly move I had to call off work at an hourly rate of 20.92 per hour two-day loss of 334.72.
I Had to watch my son that’s a very active little 4yr old lay in the bed with stomach cramps, vomiting, muscle ache, & headache with a fever of 101.1. In addition to, diarrhea and pain that he has never had before. Had to call my son’s father he had to come assist us with everything which made him late for work.
While at the hospital they told me, I had a UTI from no fluids I had to watch my son be miserable with his fever continuing to go up. A few days later my son started to have bloody diarrhea which sent us back to the hospital.
Once fluids were done & my son’s fever went down my son’s father took us back home and left to get prescriptions and soup & drinks to try to soothe our stomachs and then he went to work
Having Salmonella interfered with our daily activities. I have never seen my son this way it was so hard not seeing him being active and playing the way I know he would. I felt really bad not being able to move around as much to get things done it was a struggle for the both of us. He would want me to read to him, I would try my best but it was a struggle, I read to my son every night but that was a daily task that I could not complete which made me feel even worse. I couldn’t even take care of my sick child because I was also sick.
The doctors told us that we have Salmonella and that it was nothing they could do we would have to let it pass. They stated that we would be dealing with it for about 3 weeks and for us to drink plenty of fluids and eat light foods which was also difficult, due to the nausea, vomiting and diarrhea that was impossible.
Having Salmonella and watching my son deal with it I would not wish it on anyone it’s the worst feeling you could ever experience, made me feel like we would never get over it. I thought we would have to stay overnight in the hospital and that we would not leave for a long time. I felt we were not going to make it.
I returned to work after two days of being in pain and unable to eat because of nausea from eating. When I would have my mom or my son’s father look after him, for them to have to watch him go through so much pain was unbearable. I was unable to think while at work with my son being sick every couple of minutes saying, “mommy my tummy hurt when are you coming home”. I continued to call to check on him as much as possible and trying to do my job while still not feeling good myself.
Having Salmonella has changed our lives inevitably. We continue to be unable to eat certain things we use to eat. We get full real fast and can’t eat a full course meal still having stomach pains here & there afraid of what’s going on with my son everyday saying “mommy my tummy hurt can you rub it” just breaks my heart. It’s not right that after all this time we are still suffering from the signs and symptoms of salmonella with stomach pains almost everyday and nothing can be done.
I would like the party to know that all the pain & suffering we had to go through was unbearable and no one should have to go through that. The party should be more responsible of checking the dates, rotate stock, make sure sanitation is up to date and to also make sure that food is cooked to the right temperature so no one else would ever have to go through what me & my son experienced from Salmonella.  | Symptoms: Diarrhea, Nausea, Fever, Vomiting, Cramps, Headache, Stomach Pain, Bloody Stool, Muscle Pain
